First Conference

Have just returned from Rome, Italy and have completed two firsts.

1) Been to Rome!

2) Got my first paper published within the first 6 months of my Ph.D. and presented at the Sensornets conference in Rome.

It was the first time that the conference was run so it was quite small but got some good questions, saw some good work (including a chap from Norway who was hunting sheep), and got into a small disagreement with a Turing award winner.

All in all a good trip!

Nice Little Explanation of Sensor Networks

I have just found this little video that quite nicely explains what a sensor network is, its composition, and one potential use. The second half explains the a research tool for testing such systems in the real world.

The kindness of strangers is a wonderful thing! Tonight i met two wonderful chaps from Holland, and kindness is the word that comes to mind. Perhaps it was the wonderful conversation that we shared, perhaps it was the crate of beer that one of them produced, but either way the chat was wonderfully enthralling. In fact the simple surreality of that fact of talking to two strangers over some beer while discussing the finer points of higher energy particle physics was just wonderful. Over the coming weeks, i hope to return the favour for such a wonderful night!

The First

Here is the first blog entry. Not really sure why i am doing this as i am generally against the notion of each inhabitant of the world broadcast their thoughts for others to ignore. I think that i really just wanted an excuse to see how easy it was.
